Who Is Eligible To Receive Social Security Benefits ?

Though everyone knows about the Social Security retirement benefits and even feels happy about the same, but it is also important that all such workers are fully aware of the eligibility conditions that need to fulfill in order to avail these benefits. There are certain factors responsible towards the fulfillment of these conditions and they must be properly understood by these workers before applying for the same.



Elder people who have been into workforce whether full time or part time for a minimum of 10 years are eligible for applying for these retirement benefits. In case of a self employed as well as tax paying spouse, both the partners are eligible for receiving some sort of benefits. For a married person, the partner is also eligible towards receiving the dependants’ benefits before 62 years of age.

A person getting certain kind of disability even before attaining the retirement age is also eligible to avail the disabled benefits. In cases where both the partners were working for a minimum period of 10 years, each one of them fulfills the eligibility to avail retirement as well as the dependant’s benefits.

If a married person eligible for the disability as well as the retirement benefits dies in between, then the surviving partner is found to be entitled for receiving both these benefits. Any person if is found to be eligible for any two benefits provided by the Social Security then he or she may avail one which is higher but not all two of them.
