AARP, an abbreviation for the American Association of Retired Persons, has been introducing several beneficial programs for the people. It offers them all sort of benefits including several discounts. It proves to be a great help as far as financial and health services are concerned. One more program in this league has been introduced which is known as the AARP health care program. This offers several plans to its members.

All the health care plans that are offered by AARP are actually made available through the Secure Horizons. There are certain factors that it depends upon, like the history of the illness of the members, the state where they live and the plans that they choose for themselves. People have this misconception about the AARP plan for health care that it is nothing but supplemental insurance scheme provided by the AARP. But the fact is that it is a stand alone program being offered to the people, in which the AARP not only administers but also influences various different polices, terms and the medical coverage.

In all the health related programs, the member needs to decide about the kind of supplemental care provision that they want to go for. AARP offers two kinds of provisions in this context, the first one which is offered by the Medicare Complete Health Maintenance Organization or the HMO in short provides coverage with a few selected doctors as well as the medical offices outlined in their handbook. They, thus, have limited choices in terms of the selection of doctors but the costs are also lower than the other plans.

The other provision known as the Medicare Complete Point-of-service or the POS plan provides similar coverage as of HMO but it offers certain added benefits like the one that lets policy holder seek some medical care from sources other than listed in their HMO network. This widens their choices in terms of selection of physicians but also increases the premiums in turn.
