Hot Flashes In Post Menopause

Normally, when a woman enters post menopause, she assumes that all the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause are now behind her and she can begin to enjoy her life to the fullest. Unfortunately, some women can experience hot flashes in post menopause.

During an episode of hot flashes in post menopause, the woman may also suffer from heart palpitations; and if the hot flashes occur at nights, they are known as night sweats.

Heart palpitations can be quite a scary experience for the woman who may end up thinking that she is having a heart attack. However, this non-cardiac related problem can occur along with hot flashes and last for around 30 seconds to 5 minutes. The heart palpitations are quite similar to those that people experience during a panic attack.

When the hot flashes occur at nights, the woman will experience extreme sweating and feeling that she is very hot. This will wake her up at night with the bed linen and sleepwear drenched. However, one can handle this problem by wearing cotton sleepwear and keeping the room temperature low to help the body cool down.

Hot flashes in post menopause are experienced by some women, and they are not something to get worried about. Instead, you can take steps to get relief from them. When you feel the hot flash spreading throughout your body, you should try to remain calm. It is imperative that you think of something positive to help you overcome the episode. It has been proven scientifically that positive thoughts can help a woman cope with hot flashes. Learn to laugh as laughter will help you cope with the anxiety as well as heart palpitations that come with the hot flashes. In addition, learning some relaxing exercises, eating healthily and doing yoga will help you through the hot flashes.

Some women experiencing hot flashes in post menopause join support groups to share their feelings and learn new ways to handle these episodes. Many claim that the support groups help them deal with the hot flashes in a positive manner.
