Night sweats is also called hyperhydrosis. It is a symptom which can be caused by various conditions in women like menopause, cancer, AIDS, hypothyroidism and some other diseases as well. When you are experiencing night sweats, ask your doctor for advice first rather than self medicating.



Night sweats are caused irrespective of the heat outside, and it can also occur when the weather is very cold. It is caused due to the hormones in the body. The lack of certain hormones can trigger night sweats. Some people, who are light sleepers, experience night sweats and wake up immediately. However, night sweats is a nuisance to go through. It also causes unnecessary stress and insomnia in women. For some, it is so severe that they get scared to go to sleep. However, they are not harmful and do not trigger any other attacks like asthma or cold related symptoms, for example.

When you experience night sweats, then there is definitely an underlying problem that is causing it and you should aim at diagnosing the problem. One of the common causes of night sweats is menopause. Almost 67 percent of women experience this symptom when they reach the menopause age. If you are not anywhere close to the menopause, then you should get yourself checked. Women who have hypothyroidism can also experience night sweats. Hypothyroidism is a thyroid-related condition that causes hormonal imbalance. So, it may trigger such symptoms. Also, women, who have diabetes, may develop this symptom over a period of time. Even diabetes can cause hormonal imbalance in the body.

Both men and women experience night sweats, and in men andropause may be one of the reasons that is causing it. Other conditions that cause night sweats remain the same for both men and women. Sometimes chronic diseases like cancer or AIDS can be causing it. However, along with night sweats there could be several other symptoms coexistent. Also, people who suffer from sleep disorders can also experience night sweats. Even sleep apnea is considered as a sleep disorder. Night sweats can also be an indication of sleep apnea, for example. There are medications that are used for these diseases and once you start using them, the problem of night sweats also goes away. Night sweats can also be cured by making changes to your diet and having some herbal medications. There are several herbs that help in correcting the hormonal imbalance in your body.
