Mood swings mean not having a bad mood or depression. A mood swing means having extreme levels of mood fluctuations and unpredictable moods. For example, you may be feeling very happy for some time and then suddenly you may be too sad about something. There could have been some incident in the mean time that could have upset you, but your reaction is too extreme for a small incident.
So, if you relate to such incidents, then they are called mood swings. For example, some women experience bad mood swings during their PMS, and their behavior becomes totally unpredictable. Like they can be extremely irritable and also get too angry for the smallest of things. The term mood swings is commonly used to describe an unpredictable behavior. It is very closely related to the emotional state the person is in. often mood swings are nothing but exaggerated emotional reactions.
Some of the symptoms of mood swings are irritability, a feeling of insecurity, anxiousness and also restlessness. Also, one can lose their temper at odd times and often find themselves screaming for irrelevant things that do not matter. However, physiological mood swings might end up messing up a person's life. The interaction with the family members and society can be affected. When we are with friends and society, people expects to have a consistent behavior. However, when a person is experiencing mood swings, they can become withdrawn and quiet suddenly. The difference between mood swings and other forms of problems like anxiety and depression is that the latter is more chronic. Mood swings many last only for a brief period of time but they are very damaging and equally grave as the other mental conditions.
There are several reasons why people experience mood swings. It could be due to the food that they ate, or in women it can be PMS or menopause, in men andropause can cause mood swings, lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle, some other psychological conditions like bipolar disorder, for example, can cause these mood swings.
However, no matter what the cause is, a person who is healthy should be able to handle their temperament. It is very important that you keep yourself mentally stable. A sudden emotional outburst can be very devastating if it is in the wrong place. Also, it causes irreparable damage to your image. Mood swings can be treated by using a healthy diet and also being cautious of what you eat and drink. There are some herbal medications also that can help you overcome mood swings.
