Everybody needs to exercise to stay fit whether it is a man or a woman. However, women have something called the menstrual cycle. Several women think whether they should exercise when they have their periods. This is a common question that most women have.
There have been several different kinds of fears associated with the menstrual cycle of a woman. Several people from traditional cultures think that women should not indulge in any strenuous activity when they are menstruating. However, this is not applicable for all women and cannot be taken as a rule of thumb. Every women is different when it com to their physical and mental capacity. Women who have heavy periods where the blood flow is too much perhaps should take it easy during those five days and not exercise. Exercising causes the heart rate to increase and therefore the woman may end up bleeding more. Also, since muscles also expand while exercising a woman may experience cramping for example.
Every woman is built differently when it comes to the body and mind. There are some women, who tend to menstruate heavily, who find that if they indulge in physical activities, the bleeding tends to increase even further. On the other hand, there are some women who say that exercising and having a daily fitness routine not only helps to shorten the duration of the menstruation, it also helps to prevent menstrual cramps. However, some women also report decrease of PMS symptoms when they exercise during their menstrual periods.
But, when it comes to exercise, even experts agree that people should take a break when required. Exercising throughout the week is not advisable and one should allow a break of at least one day. However, women are not advised to indulge in any heavy kind of exercise soon after their pregnancy. That is the only time when it could turn risky. However, in order to exercise when you have your periods is left to personal discretion even by the doctors.
If you feel excessively tired while exercising, then you should probably take a break. Learn to listen to your body. Exercise does not cause you to become tired immediately. So, when you are tired, then it is a clear indication that the heart is being overworked. Hence, you need to take a break if that happens. Also, several women experience a natural tiredness when they have their periods. So, one has to be careful not to over exert and should take a break. There are some clear symptoms of overworking while you have your periods, like cramps and shortness of breath for example.
