Causes Of Andropause

We have all heard of ageing and its side effects. For women the topic of ageing has been more discussed and also menopause has been given a lot of importance. However, only a few men are aware and willing to accept that there is something called andropause which is a physiological change that takes place post middle age in their bodies. Since there is no clear indication for andropause other than a few symptoms, most men do not believe that such a condition exists and they should be aware of it.

Andropause is an ageing process that can begin in men as early as when they are 30 years old. However, most doctors say that andropause begins at around 40 and can go on until 55. After a man reaches forty years of age, the production of testosterone falls down by 1% every year. The decrease in testosterone in the body causes several other changes also in them. Testosterone in the body is related with keeping the bones strong, keeping the moods sober and it is also a mood stabilizer. It is one of the hormones that are directly related with sexual pleasure and libido. It has several neurological functions and also physiological ones. The lack of testosterone causes men to suffer on several fronts.

Once the testosterone levels start decreasing, men will notice lack of sexual interest and also libido in themselves. They may also suffer with sexual dysfunction. The decrease of this hormone happens on a very gradual phase. When a man reaches his 30s, the body is at its sexual peak. It is one of the sex binding hormones and that is when the production is very high. When andropause begins, the man's body undergoes through several changes. Andropause itself begins because the testosterone levels have fallen down. Once in ten years the testosterone levels drop more than 10 percent. By that time the skin loses its sheen and shine, wrinkles develop; men also change when it comes to their sexual and actual behavior. All these are actually attributed to the qualities of andropause.

However, if one thinks that by keeping the testosterone levels high by stimulating it through steroids they can postpone ageing, it is simply not possible. Ageing will happen and also it cannot be delayed. One can stimulate the testosterone production only to keep the body at optimum health condition. That can be done through healthy living choices.
