Normal pulse rate in humans is a very important sign associated with the body temperature, blood pressure, and the respiration rate that are considered to be used by the doctors in order to monitor as well as detect the various medical problems among people. Pulse refers to the pulsating of arteries that should be checked in order to find out where the arteries may be compressed against bones.



The places within the human body wherein the pulse rates can be felt include the neck, the wrist, behind the knee, inside the elbow, and near ankle joint. It may also be measured directly as the heart beats which is known as apical pulse.

As far as the normal pulse rate for humans is concerned, it varies depending on various factors such as age and condition. The normal rate for the babies at the age of one year is between 10 to 160 beats every minute while amongst children belonging to age group of 1 to 10 years, it is actually 60 to 140 beats every minute. Some elder children like those belonging to 11 to 17 years age group must have a pulse rate of 60 to 100 beats and the same applies to all the adults.

Well-conditioned athletes are observed having pulse rate between 40 and 60 per minute. There are certain things such as nicotine and caffeine increases the pulse rates thus these need to be avoided. There are various health disorders such as heart diseases that might lead to higher pulse rates.
