Prostate Cancer And Chronic Prostatitis

If you are a man reaching your retirement age with no problems linked to your prostrate gland, then you can certainly consider yourself lucky! Problems related to this exocrine gland are extremely common in men after the age of 50 and the percentage keeps increasing with age.

Prostatitis is defined as a severe inflammation of the prostate gland, which in turn leads to difficulties in urination. Statistics highlight that almost 16 percent of men are victims of this medical condition in their lives. As in the case of enlarged prostrate, this disease is not related to age in men. Prostatitis is often noted as a recurrent problem in men. The possibility of prevention of prostatitis is high in the bacterial variant of the disease. Bacterial form of prostatitis can be cured by administration of antibiotics that can ensure the elimination of its causal agent. However, in the chronic nonbacterial type of the disease, the treatment may be only temporary since the exact cause of the disease is not known.

Many researchers speculate a link between recurrent or chronic prostatitis and cancer of the prostrate gland. However, it must be noted that there is no medical evidence that supports this claim. Prostrate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer observed in men. This malignancy is known to produce no symptoms until a later stage of cancer advancement. One of the reasons of associating prostrate cancer with prostatitis could be the regular medical supervision in the latter case. Men suffering from prostatitis make regular visits to the clinic in contrast to others. Therefore, owing to the routine testing the probability of identifying the malignancy is higher in this group, which in other cases may be hidden until an advanced stage.
