Effects Of Aging On Male Erection

Men attain sexual peak when they reach their early 20s. This period continues for a few years and there after, the sexual performance starts diminishing. As men age, they start having problems with erection. Many of the male erection problems can be alleviated through medications, but there could be some that may need to be treated psychologically.

The effects of aging on male erection are seen in the form of erectile dysfunction. Here the man either unable to get an erection or unable to sustain an erection in order to perform the act of intercourse. It has been seen that nearly half of the men between 40 years and 69 years suffer from some or the other type of sexual dysfunction. And, nearly seventy percent of men who are aged 70 and more also have the same problem.

The effects of aging on male erection can be caused due to lowered hormone levels, damage to the nerves that run in the penis, or health condition like elevated blood pressure and diabetes. Even when men smoke too much, they can suffer from erectile dysfunction.

One of the problems that men face when they age is premature ejaculation. This can cause a man to get stressed and anxious. He becomes afraid that it will occur again and this becomes a vicious cycle as the anxiety leads to premature ejaculation. This problem can be treated through proper pelvic exercises and counseling.

As a man ages, the number of sperms reduce. This can make it difficult for a man to fertilize a woman. So, infertility is a problem too, and this is seen mostly in men who suffer from erectile dysfunction. Many times it has been seen that a man cannot sustain an erection because his body responds biologically to the infertility.
