Health is never an issue on one’s mind in the younger years of life. It is only when one approaches the twilight years that the fear of health disorders and diseases starts gripping you. Health insurance done at the appropriate time can certainly take a major load off one’s mind and cater for financial expenditures in need.
Therefore, obviously the newly introduced health care reform bill in the US is a cause of concern for the elderly in the nation especially for those who may not have surplus money in hand to match the increasing health costs.
The health care reform bill states that the government will reduce the payments shelled out to Medicare Advantage plans managed by private insurers such as Humana by 132 billion dollars over a span of 10 years. Initially, the Medicare Advantage plans provided far more benefits to the senior citizens in contrast to the conventional Medicare. However, after this reform illustrating reduction, the scenario may change. At the same time, the bill projects no restrictions on the traditional Medicare remuneration.
The first phase of the reduction commencing in the year 2011 will be spread over a period of 3 years. While this would be implemented in majority of areas in the US, things could take a while in certain places. As part of this diminution, till the year 2019 Medicare expenses would be slashed by 40 billion dollars and 22 billion dollars for home health care and certain hospitals costs respectively. The bill also offers some augmentation in the form of the nation paying75 percent of drug expenditures ranging between 2,700 and 6,154 dollars for the elderly by the year 2020.
