Example Of Eulogy Speech

A eulogy is a speech that is given at a funeral or memorial service to commemorate a person who was very dear. Invariably, the person presenting the eulogy is a close friend or family member of the deceased who knew the person extremely well.

A eulogy is never long. It should be around 4 to 5 minutes unless you have been told that you can present a longer one. It should contain a short history of the person's life, interests, achievements, career, family, and some of the favorite memories that the presenter shared with the deceased.

It is always difficult to write a eulogy speech because you would be battling grief on losing a loved one or someone who was extremely special and close to you. However, the best eulogies are always written from the heart and it does not have to be perfect. It should be able to highlight your feelings about the person and also show to others what a wonderful person the deceased was.

Initially write a rough draft of the eulogy speech. Read it through and then make the revisions. Alternatively, you can get an example of a eulogy speech from the Internet and use it as a based to draft your own eulogy.

Here is one example of a eulogy speech that you can use as a template to write your own. Of course, you can omit parts or change the order depending on what you think is best for your speech.

Andrew lived an amazing life although it was quite short. He was a good friend, the best you can ask for. He was always there when I needed him. In fact, there was this one time when Andrew saved my life. We were just kids and did not know each other too well as Andrew has just moved into the neighborhood. I was trying to cross the street as I was getting late for a piano class. I did not see this huge truck speeding towards me. If Andrew had not pulled me back, I would have come under the wheels of the truck and died. That is how our bond of friendship was forged. This happened 10 years ago and ever since we have been inseparable.

As we became teenagers, Andrew fell in love with this girl at school. I was really angry and jealous. I loved Andrew and was not used to sharing him with anyone else. I did not know how it would be to have a third person in our friendship. However, when I met Lucy, I really like her. She was fun and vivacious. She complemented Andrew. Lucy and I too became good friends and I became happy that Andrew and found the perfect match.

Everyone who knew Andrew will remember his sense of humor. He was ready to make people around him laugh with his silly jokes on his mother or his funny faces. He was really good at making those faces. Just thinking about them still cracks me up. The thing is that Andrew was always there to get a laugh out of me when I was down and blue. He cheered me up without even realizing. He wanted all the people around him to be happy.

Andrew's death was a shock as it was sudden and unexpected. When I heard the news, I just did not believe it. He was young and full of life. There were still many things he wanted to achieve. But now looking back, I think Andrew died on his own terms. He lived his life in a wonderful and fun-filled manner. He was loved by one and all who had the good fortune to know him and spend time with him. I am grateful to have known Andrew and to have spent the last 10 years of my life with him. He will forever live in my heart and in the hearts of all people who knew him.

Andrew is no longer with us, but knowing him, he would not have wanted us to feel sad and upset about his demise. He would have wanted us to celebrate his life, so let us not cry over our loss, but be happy knowing that we had the good fortune to know a person as wonderful as Andrew. While I will miss him, I know in my heart that some day we will be together again and he will not waste any time cracking his jokes and making me laugh.
